About Mel
Hi! I'm Mel. I moved from Rio de Janeiro to the US in 2018 to study Film, and I've since found a passion for teaching Portuguese, sparked by requests from friends and coworkers. My love for photography, videography, and crocheting influences my creative teaching style.
I specialize in both informal and formal Portuguese, aiming to make my lessons flexible and tailored to meet your personal or professional language goals. Whether you're interested in casual conversation skills or need to polish your formal communication, my approach is focused and adaptable.
I'm committed to providing a learning experience that's both effective and engaging, ensuring you progress in your understanding and use of Portuguese. Let's dive into the language together and make your learning journey a successful one.

My teaching methodology is centered around immersion and practical application. By integrating multimedia resources into lessons, students are exposed to the Portuguese language as it is used in various contexts, from everyday conversations to more formal settings. This exposure helps in developing a nuanced understanding of the language, including its informal and formal registers.
I hold a degree in Film from a university in the United States, an experience that not only honed my skills in visual storytelling but also enriched my pedagogical strategies. While I do not possess formal certifications in language teaching, my practical experience in teaching Portuguese, coupled with my academic background, has equipped me with the necessary skills to offer high-quality language education.
My subject expertise extends to Brazilian Portuguese, with a focus on both spoken and written forms of the language. Through personalized lesson plans, I aim to meet the individual needs of each student, whether they seek to improve their conversational abilities, understand Brazilian media, or acquire a comprehensive grasp of the language for professional purposes.
