About Tia

Hi! I am first year undergraduate student studying History at the University of Warwick. I am an enthusiastic tutor who enjoys working with children of all ages.

I have 6 months experience teaching professionally at Explore Learning, in which I supported different groups children of ages between 5 to 15. In this time, I had experience tutoring children who had special educational needs, such as ADHD and dyslexia. From this role, a thorough understanding of the English National Curriculum from Stages 1 to 4 for English and Maths was required.

In addition, I have experience with one-to-one tutoring, in which I volunteered to tutor a Year 11 GCSE student in Maths who had partial blindness. As a result, I adapted my typical tutoring style to best support her and help her achieve her desired grade.

Both experiences were incredibly rewarding, seeing their progress and their confidence in Maths and English grow.

I look to be a friendly and patient tutor in which children are comfortable to ask any questions they may have in order to develop into an independent learner.

About the lesson

I adapt my teaching style depending on the child’s abilities and learning style, acknowledging different children respond better to different teaching methods. Part of this teaching for primary school children would be visual demonstrations, interactive worksheets and some independent work, in order to build their confidence. For secondary school children, I would encourage independent thinking more, while using worked examples and practice questions to build their skills. I would provide personalised feedback, target areas and homework at the end of each session to consolidate learning.
