About Matthew
I am a double first class University of Cambridge BA Economics and MPhil Economics and Finance graduate tutor with over 70 hours of experience in tutoring the Oxbridge admissions process, university applications, undergraduate and A-Level Economics and Finance, A-Level Mathematics, and Finance/Consultancy careers.
For university admission tutoring, I will guide you through each stage of your application: personal statement -> submitted work -> admissions testing -> interview. I have been through the process myself for the University of Cambridge and can help you in your journey too, whether for UCAS, Oxbridge, Ivy League, or Russell Group universities etc. I do this by tailoring my tutoring to emphasise your strengths and develop areas in which you feel less prepared.
I am an expert in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. I have worked in Economic Consultancy for TWS Partners and Vivid Economics (McKinsey group), specialising in advanced Microeconomics, game theory, climate economics, global macroeconomics, and business strategy.
I can also aid your path into a financial career. I have Quantitative trading experience for Seamless Capital, an algorithmic trading firm in Cambridge, where I worked with Python to maintain, analyse, and improve Seamless Capital’s algorithmic strategies on their traded exchanges. I can guide your preparation for finance and consultancy internship and job applications to give you the best chance of breaking into your dream industry.

I design personalised sessions and exercises for my students, tailored to their needs and learning style. Our sessions focus on the targeted areas identified with the student during our first free session. They are based on structured content inspired by my experience of the teaching and supervisions at the University of Cambridge.
Depending on your need, our sessions can focus on either of the following:
-> Exam preparation and essay writing in specific areas of Economics/Finance:
- I have expertise in a range of areas of economics including game theory, auction and contract theory, rational choice theory, corporate finance, behavioural economics, developmental economics, exchange rates and global macroeconomics
- If you lack confidence when approaching studies or theories falling within any area, please specify this in your first session with me and I will provide in depth support focused on this.
-> Research design / conducting research / thesis & dissertation writing:
- I received a distinction (85%) in my Mphil Finance and Economics thesis at Cambridge and a first class (72%) in my BA Economics dissertation, also at Cambridge.

Deadly! Matthew is an amazing tutor! I was initially struggling with my university essay assignment and Matthew helped me organise a clear structure for my essay. He also took time outside class to help me find research for my essay, especially on areas in which I struggle with.
