About Maria

I currently teach adults and students preparing for GCSE and A level. In the past, I have taught at a preparatory course at Moscow State University, at a 6th form college evening language course and at a bilingual Sunday school in the UK. I also deliver language taster days and Russian language workshops at schools across England. In addition to teaching Russian, I`m a volunteer tutor at a secondary school in England where I support students in working towards a higher grade in GCSE English.

I hold a PhD in linguistics from Moscow State University, BA in teaching English as a Foreign Language and a certificate in teaching Russian as a Foreign Language, and have many years of experience working with learners of different ages and levels teaching both in Russia and in the UK.

About the lesson

Hello, my name is Maria and I'm a certified teacher of Russian as a foreign language. I graduated from Moscow State University where I got a BA in English Language and Literature and then subsequently a PhD in Linguistics (Discourse Analysis), followed by, some years later, a course in teaching Russian as a foreign language. Despite having a classical and academic education, I teach in a fun and relaxed way and do not overburden my students with grammar rules. I try my best teaching Russian in a natural way, like a child would learn it, with no judgement or expectations.

I started teaching languages when I was still a student, first to Russian students (teaching English), then becoming a teacher of Russian as a foreign language to people who worked at embassies in Moscow. I restarted teaching some time after I moved to the UK with my job and this time I taught at an evening course at my local VI form college and privately. I also taught at a weekend supplementary school for bilingual children.
