About David
David is a teacher, with over 20 years’ experience, 16 of which as Head of Department. He has taught across a wide range of age groups, from A level classes right down to year 4 students. Most recently he has expanded his experience to remote learning/teaching with the closure of schools due to the COVID pandemic.
He is currently working in a secondary school near Croydon with mixed abilities classes, that included GCSE students working on the Edexcel syllabus and A level candidates studying the Eduqas and the AQA syllabuses. He can therefore help students looking to secure a grade 4 pass or those aiming for a top grade 9.
Prior to his current role David worked in a prep school and so can offer guidance to Common Entrance and ISEB scholarship candidates seeking to enter the Independent sector, as well as developing pedagogy suitable for younger geography students.
David’s other teaching experience was in a selective grammar school. In that time he was able to work with the most able students and help guide those seeking to study geography at University. David is therefore familiar with the entry requirement levels for selective senior schools and has successfully tutored candidates through the selection exams.
Within all three school and in each and every year of his career, David has guided students through required fieldwork/individual Studies/NEA project work. He has overseen student projects focussing on rivers, coasts, glaciers, the water cycle and a range of urban studies.
Prior to entering the teaching profession, David worked in the public transport and shipping consultancy sector. He has lived abroad for 12 years and has also travelled widely. He regularly uses these experiences to provide relevance and background to areas of geographical study.
In school, and something he looks to bring into his tutoring, David seeks to make cross-curricular links for his students between geography and other school departments; helping with student engagement and also drawing upon their other skills and interests.
