About Rachel

I hold a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from Fordham University, where I also taught undergraduate biology and human physiology. My background spans academic research, university-level teaching, clinical experience, and biomedical laboratory science.

Science is also something I genuinely enjoy outside of work. I’m especially interested in neuroscience, human physiology, hormones and endocrinology, reproductive biology, learning and memory, and the ways biological systems influence behavior and health. I enjoy keeping up with new research and emerging areas of science and medicine, particularly neurotechnology and advances in reproductive and translational medicine.

One of my favorite parts of science is taking a complicated finding or concept and figuring out how to explain it in a way that feels intuitive. That curiosity carries into my teaching. I want students to understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters and how it connects to the larger scientific picture.

My research experience has also given me a strong foundation in experimental design, data interpretation, scientific literature, and research communication. I enjoy helping students develop these skills alongside their course material, whether they are learning how to interpret a figure in a research paper, think through an experiment, or communicate their own scientific ideas.

Above all, I bring genuine enthusiasm for science to my sessions. My goal is to make challenging material feel approachable while helping students become more confident, curious, and independent learners.

I believe the best way to learn science is to understand the “why” behind a concept rather than simply memorizing information. My tutoring approach focuses on breaking complex topics into clear, manageable pieces and then building connections between them so students can confidently apply what they’ve learned.

I adapt each lesson to the student’s course, goals, and learning style. A typical session may include reviewing difficult concepts, working through diagrams or practice questions, connecting material to real-world examples, and identifying areas that need additional reinforcement. For exams, I can also help students develop effective study strategies and focus on the concepts most important for their course.

My background combines graduate-level training in biological sciences, university-level teaching, and hands-on research experience in neuroscience, physiology, endocrinology, and biomedical research. I especially enjoy helping students understand challenging biological concepts and develop the scientific reasoning skills needed to interpret data, read research papers, design experiments, and communicate scientific ideas clearly.

I work with high school, AP, undergraduate, and pre-med students in biology, human physiology, neuroscience, and related life sciences. I can also work with college and graduate students seeking support with research skills, scientific writing, presentations, posters, and understanding primary literature.

Most importantly, I want students to feel comfortable asking questions. Science can seem overwhelming when concepts are presented all at once, so my goal is to meet students where they are, figure out what isn’t clicking, and explain it in a way that finally makes sense.
