About Jamie
Hi, I’m Jamie. I’m a private maths tutor with over 10 years' experience in teaching GCSE, IB, A-Level Maths and Further Maths. I have a First-Class degree in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Nottingham and a Master’s in Applicable Mathematics from LSE, where I graduated with Distinction. I also spent time studying Pure Mathematics at PhD level before leaving to start an AI startup with a couple of friends.
I’ve been teaching since finishing my undergraduate degree, and it has always been a real passion of mine. I enjoy helping students move from feeling confused or anxious about maths to feeling confident, capable and prepared. My approach is calm, clear and structured, with a strong focus on genuine understanding as well as exam technique.
I work especially well with students who want maths explained properly, not just rushed through. Whether the goal is catching up, building confidence, preparing for exams, or pushing for the highest grades, I tailor lessons around the student’s needs. We can focus on difficult topics, past-paper practice, problem-solving, revision planning, or developing a deeper understanding of the subject.
Outside of tutoring, I’m into film, board games, fitness, piano and music production. I’ve always liked the way maths connects to patterns, logic, music and creativity, and I try to bring some of that enthusiasm into my teaching.

I try to make maths feel clear, logical and manageable. A lot of students struggle because they have been shown methods without really understanding why they work. My aim is to slow things down, explain ideas properly, and help students build the kind of understanding that makes exam questions feel much less intimidating.
My lessons are calm, structured and focused on the individual student. Some students need help rebuilding confidence, some need careful exam preparation, and others want to push towards the highest grades in A-Level Maths, Further Maths, IB or GCSE. I adapt the lesson around the student’s goals, whether that means going through difficult topics, practising past-paper questions, improving problem-solving, or developing better revision habits.
What you can expect from my lessons:
• Clear explanations: I break topics down carefully and avoid rushing through ideas before they make sense.
• Personalised support: Every student is different, so lessons are shaped around their current level, confidence and aims.
• Exam-focused practice: We work on past-paper questions, mark schemes, technique and common mistakes, especially as exams approach.
• Confidence building: I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and to leave lessons feeling more capable than when they started.
• Deeper understanding: I encourage students to see the logic behind the maths, rather than just memorising steps.
For online lessons, I use digital tools and shared working so students can see each step clearly. Lessons are interactive, with plenty of discussion, examples and guided practice. My goal is for students not only to improve their grades, but to start seeing maths as something they can understand and even enjoy.
