About Tony
In highschool, I really wanted to be an Art teacher. I took 4 years of graphic design, painting, sketching, and drawing. When I reached Chaffey College, I realized how much my art background helped me through my science classes like Biology 101 and Anatomy! So I changed majors to Biomedical Illustration. As a pre-requisite, I had to take Physiology, and it was then I wanted to leave Art behind and pursue Nursing because I fell in love with the bodily systems and was amazed! Then as a Nursing pre-req, I had to take Microbiology, and that's when it all clicked! I was able to work on campus for 3 years as a tutor and peer mentor in the biological sciences, while finishing my final year at Chaffey and transferring to Cal Poly Pomona. I did my undergraduate research in Neuroimmunology and the impacts of West Nile Virus Encephalitis infections. Graduated mid-pandemic and went straight into the industry as a Clinical Lab Assistant for a COVID-19 Research and Detection lab. Since then I've been working as a Senior Research Associate for a company in the Claremont Colleges, engineering phage viruses and running protein expression assays! I love what I do and love even more helping young people through their journeys because I was also once there.

As students, often we understand either a part of a concept or we are just completely lost. No matter what, we still have some sort of grasp on the understanding. Regardless of the subject, my job is to meet you halfway if not more! I start my lessons by hearing what you understand so far up to where you start to get lost. Thats where I come in. As a tutor and peer mentor at Chaffey, we would also provide workshops for Note-Taking Skills, Test Taking Anxiety and even Career Planning! Even if it was 30 minutes of just talking about our experiences and thoughts. I would love to hear your journey and where you've been stuck so that we can find a solution together! I've been there. As a peer mentor, my job is not help you reach a perfect test score, but a better understanding of the material. The more you understand, the less you memorize!
