About Dan

Hello! I'm Dan a professional musician working in South London. I'm very lucky that I get to do a wide range of jobs as part of my career. You'll often find me musically directing and conducting musicals, conducting various choirs, teaching at renowned drama schools such as Italia Conti, Arts Ed and Bird College, arranging the music and conducting pantomimes every Christmas and teaching instrumental lessons. I find the variety of my job so exciting and love taking on new challenges.

I have a Masters with Distinction in Musical Direction for Musical Theatre from leading drama school Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and a First Class Honours Degree from Leeds Conservatoire in Classical Clarinet. I'm experienced in Classical Music, Musical Theatre and Pop.

I'm always learning from working with new people and in new situations and I like to bring this to my students. I think it's so important to have a teacher who is active in the industry and still learning themselves!

About the lesson

I've been teaching private instrumental lessons now for over 5 years and in that time I've taught a wide array of ages, from 4 years old through to those in their 70's. I've taught extensively as an instrumental teacher and believe it's never too late to begin learning an instrument! I believe that at the heart of all good learning there should be enjoyment and I have a range of different teaching methods to help anyone learn in the best and most effective way for them.

I've had the pleasure of teaching many different abilities and have taken students through many of the graded exams. One of my proudest moments as a teacher was taking a young student from their Grade 5 Piano exam all the way through to achieving a merit in their Grade 8.

I'm a friendly and enthusiastic teacher who enjoys teaching and sharing my knowledge for music with others. My lessons often centre around five key principles, which I believe are crucial to all when learning an instrument: Practical Skills, Theory, Performance Confidence, Technique and Musicianship.

I always tailor my lessons towards the students, creating interesting activities which aim to build upon their existing skills whilst also strengthening their weakest ones. These lessons are always centred around the student's age and ability on their instrument. I will also set tasks for the student to accomplish outside of the lesson.

I teach all of the ABRSM grades on Piano and specialise in Music Theory up to Grade 5. I also have knowledge of the Trinity syllabus, can teach Rockschool exams and have trained students for school Scholarships.
