Jeff's approach to acting through the core concepts of concentration, intention and believability continues to shape my life more than twenty years later. And as if setting a bunch of high schoolers on the path to true enlightenment wasn't enough, he was always genuinely engaged with us as people while remaining genre-defyingly cool.

Since high school I've secretly wanted to perform on a stage. I never thought that I could do it. For my 40th birthday, my wife signed me up for Jeff's class. Jeff is a great teacher. Within an hour, I believed that I could be an actor. Since then, I have performed in showcases, been cast in full plays, been in many improv shows and have performed stand-up comedy in several well known NYC comedy clubs. None of that would have happened if I didn't have Jeff as a teacher and mentor.

"Mentor" can be such an eghhh word, but it's exactly what Jeff has become to me. In him you will find knowledge, support, someone who will challenge you and someone who knows how you should be challenged. Jeff learns you, he doesn't just plug you into his "program." He'll build on your natural strengths, even if you don't think you have any, and then show you where you can go with them and how to expand. His classes are fun, but never trivial and you will soon realize he is serious about this art. He's the man to see.

I have known Jeff Bennett for over 15 years. I was a member of the Bare Bones Theater Company, which he founded, and as a member, I have taken every acting class he has taught. I have also been directed by Jeff in countless showcase scenes as well as our production of Six Degrees of Separation.

Jeff’s motto is “No acting, please.” His techniques taught students to be comfortable on stage in front of an audience and to inhabit the character so completely that the audience would forget you were acting.
