About Jon
Previous experience teahing undergraduate and graduate students in psychology many years ago. I have continued this teaching as a professional actor and executive coach for the past twenty years.
I have graduate degrees in psychology, attended several acting, voice, accents, casting director and stage movement workshops over a 30 year period. Received many acting awards and screenwriting and playwriting awards. Currently teach improvisation as the SAG-AFTRA Conservatory in New york City. I typically work with experienced actors who need a "third eye" in their interpreatation of a scene or full script for their character(s). I will work with beginning actors above the age of 18 if they are serious about learning the craft. My process starts with what you want to accomplish, you sending me the copy or script you are working on (I can provide one if you don't have one), then I send you suggestions of what to look for, you practice, we meet and go over, perform, tweak, discuss the scene. Working towards memorized scenes are best I find so the actor can free themeselves from the page and play with the words in their character choice with improvised ways of expressing that character.
I work primarily with experienced actors.
FInd out what you want (learn a character, interepretation of a scene, how to express transitional emotions, maintiaining conversatioal pace, etc.), what does the teacher offer, look at their background and fee structure, and make a decision.
One of my students told me recently how much I helped them to more easily express themselves within their character during auditions. I told her that she did it I didn't. I just gave her permission to play without judgement before the tweaks.
