About Basil

Public speaking is, at its heart, simply storytelling - a basic trait enjoyed and sought after by everyone across cultures and backgrounds.

I focus on the basics of telling a story simply, clearly, and believably.

My sessions prioritize curiosity, experimentation, and joyful play, combined with discipline and technical basics to create an individual experience for each student.

I’ve worked as a teaching artist at professional and accredited institutions such as Seattle Children’s Theatre, Village Theatre’s KidStage, and Bellevue College. I’ve been acting professionally on stage, and in media, film, and voiceover work since 2003 and am a member of SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity Association.

I look forward to working with you!

I hold a BA in Theater from the University of New Hampshire. I founded and produced the sketch comedy group Bald Faced Lie. I’ve worked with improv groups Unexpected Productions (TheatreSports) and Jet City Improv. I co-founded the Seattle chapter of the Alliance of Professional Performers NW and I sit on the Leadership Committee of the Seattle chapter of Actors Equity Association.

I do public speaking and business presentation coaching as well.

About the lesson

I like to discuss their goals and desires with regard to public speaking or presentation before entering into a instructional relationship. Someone who is trying to hone their pitch skills or land a client requires a different approach than someone looking to improve their public speaking skills or just taking lessons for fun (all are valid approaches, I just like to know first!)

I have experience teaching students at the grade-school level up through adult classes.

Avoid promises of instant success. Public speaking, while daunting at the outset to many folks, is a craft like any other which can be learned and honed through repetition and training. This takes time and requires a durable ego. Expect your confidence to grow with your skills and be ready to surprise yourself!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out

What is my goal as a speaker? What are my measurements of success - making “the sale”? Establishing trust with a client or key group of stakeholders? Conveying information clearly and succinctly?

Am I willing to take risks (in a safe environment) and explore my own habits and challenges as a speaker?

Am I prepared to risk failure (in a safe environment) in order to learn about myself and my craft?
