About Adam

I've graduated with a 3.9 in Mechanical Enigineering from Northern Illinois University and currently work as an Automation Engineer. I am good at explaining difficult concepts and presenting an idea in various ways to help my counterpart gain better understanding. I am considering becoming a Physics teacher because I have a strong passion for both teaching and Physics, so consider this as my first stepping stone towards that career path.

I think that a job is best done when you feel passionate about what you do. Helping students understand difficult concepts is very fulfilling work and there are few things better than watching someone accomplish something that they didn't think they'd be able to accomplish.

I really hope this is how I can begin my first formal teaching experience. While in school, I helped many of my fellow classmates understand difficult concepts using trivial building blocks. I have an inate ability to teach, and I'd like to harness that into something useful, like tutoring.

I do not have any training explicitly in teaching. However, I have a Mechanical Engineering degree which taught be advanced mathematics, physics, and engineering concepts. As an engineer, I have been trained and have practiced problem solving. Finding an effective and efficient ways to teach individual students is no different than solving an engineering problem. Finding the best solution to a problem is all about the approach and sequence to solve that problem.

About the lesson

First, I get to know the student a bit. I learn about their personal interests and what they enjoy in their free time. A student needs to be able to trust their tutor, and this trust starts before the academics kick in.

Next, I like want to know where they are at in their curriculum, and what they are struggling with. I like to figure out where students are stuggling beyond just the topic they are on. Are they having troubles understanding concepts? Are they not understanding a fundamental building block needed to understand and apply larger concepts?

Then, I assess how the student learns best. There are many mediums in which to teach material and some mediums work for some students, but not others. Finding a medium in which to communicate concepts efficiently and effectively is where I excel.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It is easy to feel lost in a topic and become overwhelmed. When asking a teacher for help, that help can be much more effective if you can ask a specific question that targets the source of your misunderstanding. Don't know how to ask a question like that? No worries, that is why I am here.
