About Blair
-I LOVE helping students to gain knowledge and especially in the area of science! Tutoring is my favorite way to do this because it allows for a more focused time with one student at a time and tailors to their own unique learning style.
-I got my teaching certification in Life Sciences in 2011. I have tutored, taught in the public school setting and taught in the private school setting. I have been an educator in both middle school and high school, and I have taught a range of subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Earth/Space Science and Health. Outside of a traditional school setting, I've also been a private tutor for entry level college students.
-I graduated from UNT in 2011 from the Teach North Texas program. I was nominated a student ambassador for the College of Arts and Sciences/College of Education during my time at the UNT for my efforts. The program I graduated from was specific to math and science teachers so my classical educational training was geared specifically toward teaching in a science classroom. I earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Secondary Education and received my Life Science (grades 8-12) certification in 2011.
I was teaching at a daycare and had plans of becoming a nurse but I got pregnant with my first child which hindered my entrance into nursing school. As I thought through a possible change of direction, I had two desires....to work with kids and to help kids. I also was fascinated with science and wanted to stay in that field of study. My heart settled on becoming a science teacher and I'm SO glad I did!!
I have a degree in Biology with minor in Chemistry and Secondary Education. I was trained in a teaching program that was specifically created for math and science teachers so my educational training was specific to the field of science.

I first like to get to know my students a bit. If I can learn the basics about their personality it gives me insight into how to best relate to them. I ask questions that show me their learning style and preferences in order that I can best meet their academic needs. My ultimate desire is to create for them a place where they not only obtain information but acquire and retain true knowledge of their subject.

Additionally, one of my jobs was at a school with (mostly) extremely troubled students. Some were active gang members and drug dealers. Honestly, this is what fostered in me a deeply held compassion for what may be going on behind the scenes. It allowed me to see beyond tough exteriors and really see the child for who they are. That experience really shaped me as a teacher!
