About Laine
I am a graduating senior at Muhlenberg College (class of 2020) with a double major in theatre and neuroscience. I have a diverse set of skills and knowledge from my liberal arts education, and I want to share it with others! Throughout my college career, I have found my strengths lie in providing mentorship to teenagers and young adults, and tutoring is the perfect way for me to put that strength into practice.
I am open to working online in a variety of subjects, ranging from science to english to the performing arts. Especially during this troubling time of school closures and sheltering in place, if you are having trouble accessing your usual academic resources, I am happy to provide support in what ways I can.
One of the great joys of my life is watching personal growth in action. Having worked in a variety of education programs during my high school and college careers, the most fulfilling thing is looking at the students as they came into the program and seeing the incredible changes that they have gone through as a result of their active participation, and witnessing the emergence of their best selves.
I have worked for three years on the Muhlenberg orientation staff as an orientation team leader. This involved facilitating discussions and workshops in order to train our orientation leaders to engage with their group of incoming first year students, as well as acting as a mentor and providing information to staff, first year students, and their family members. This position has made me a better leader and enhanced my collaboration skills.
In the areas of performing arts and neuroscience I have extensive training through my coursework - my specialties are Shakespeare/classical text work and the philosophy/psychology of neurosience. I have also taken courses in biology, chemistry, film studies, and anatomy and physiology.
