About Marie
I am a Registered Dietitian by trade who has always thoroughly enjoyed chemistry and biology classes. I began tutoring in 2016 at Ohio State University while finishing my graduate program. I helped over 20 students a semester with college level chemistry ( CHEM 101 and CHEM 102, high school equivalent of general and AP chemistry) college level general biology (BIO 101 and BIO 102, high school equivalent of general biology and AP biology), and nutrition sciences. I have also done private physical sciences and math tutoring for the AFOQT Air Force flight school exam.
Learning physical sciences can be challenging, and at times it feel like learning a new language. I find that when you can explain how the fundamental principles apply to a bigger picture of the world around us, it can be more exciting to learn. My goal is to not only help student learn the material, but to get excited about how what they are learning applies to other feilds.
It sounds stupid, but physical sciences can be so cool! Unfortunately the way that they are sometimes taught in school makes learning subjects like chemistry and biology daunting, rather than showing students how these incredible physical principles link us to the world around us. I hope that my students will learn find excitement in these subjects!
I began tutoring unconventionally. While taking Organic Chemistry 1 in college, I grasped the material quickly. As a result, I lead multiple study groups and inadvertently fell into a role of doing tutoring my own classmates for that class. I enjoyed teaching sciences as much as I enjoyed learning it. While getting my degree in Medical Dietetics at the Ohio State University, I knew I had a love to teach chemistry and biology and therefore got a job tutoring student athletes while getting my degree. I have done private tutoring on the side informally since then for acquaintances who are getting ready to take standardized tests and need help with physical sciences or math up to college level algebra.
I am a Registered Deititian, with an MS degrees in Medical Dietetics. My schooling included biology up to Biochemisty, chemistry up to Organic Chemistry 2, Advanced Metabolism, Anatomy, and Physiology.
I tutored Chemistry 101, Chemistry 102, Biology 101, and Human Nutrition at the Ohio State University for three semesters from 2016 to 2017. I have also done private tutoring in 2021 for the AFOQT Air Force pilot test in the subjects of algebra and physical sciences.

I first like to assess the student's goals and reason for tutoring. This will help me find the student's motivation. I also like to assess how my student best learns, and what techniques have helped with any past tutoring.
At the Ohio State University I worked with college student athletes. I have tutored mostly college aged kids or those in their early to mid 20s.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Especially with physical sciences, student should ask themselves why they are seeking additional help in the subject. A lot of times I hear the comment "I just need to pass this class". I then like to assess if they are going to continue with further physical science classes. Many people I have worked with have goals of becoming doctors, engineers, or other medical or science related fields. It is important that students understand that physical sciences classes build upon each other, and if you do not understand the fundamentals you will continue to struggle through the rest of the classes. I thoroughly enjoy helping people who are struggling with fundamentals of chemistry and biology helping them learn not only the material but how it relates to the bigger picture in those fields.
