About Sarah

Hello and welcome! My name is Sarah and I am an experienced and passionate tutor in chemistry, materials science, math, and the physical sciences, as well as Spanish, writing, and ESOL.

I finished my PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in February 2020, and I got my BA in Chemistry from Rutgers University in 2014. I have 3.5 years of experience teaching college and graduate level chemistry and materials science courses, as well as 10+ years of experience tutoring. I have worked with science students of all ages and backgrounds, from elementary school to graduate students.

I speak Spanish and currently work remotely for a nonprofit based in Mexico City. I have a minor in Spanish from Rutgers University, and I currently tutor kids and adults in Spanish online.

I have an online certification in ESOL from VIPKid, and I currently work with both kids and adults to help them learn English online. I have experience as a classroom assistant in an English immersion elementary school, and I have served as a teaching assistant in an adult ESOL classroom at the International Institute of New England in Boston.

I love helping students of all ages and backgrounds meet their goals, whatever they may be! Whether you're a college student in need one-time help on a homework assignment, or a parent looking for consistant tutoring for your child, I am here to help!

I have been tutoring since high school. I loved helping my friends with chemistry concepts, and in college, I started serving as a teaching assistant for various chemistry courses. In graduate school, I sought out as many teaching opportunities as possible because I love sharing my passion for science!

I have a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT (2020), and a BA in Chemistry from Rutgers University (2014). I also have minors in math and Spanish from Rutgers and a minor in Teaching from MIT.

I have taught college courses in chemistry and materials science for 3.5 years and I have over 10 years of tutoring experience.

About the lesson

When working with new students, I usually schedule a phone call or a quick online meeting to discuss their needs, background, and where they would like to start. For students who have specific problems from an assignment that they want help on, that's usually not necessary, and the students can just send me the problems ahead of time for me to take a look at.

I want to make sure the tutoring services I provide meet your needs, so I am completely open to suggestions from students/parents as to how they would like the sessions to be structured.

I have worked with students in pre-K all the way through the graduate level! I served as a volunteer in a language immersion pre-K classroom, and I have run numerous science outreach programs for elementary and middle school students. I currently tutor high school and college students online, in addition to having taught at the college level. I have worked with adults of all ages for ESOL!
