About Micha-

I TEACH AND TUTOR BOTH ENGLISH AND LATIN. I have a Ph.D. in British Literature from Kent State University, and an M.A. from the University of South Carolina in Classical Studies. I have been teaching and tutoring both Latin English for close to 30 years, at the University of South Carolina, Kent State University, the University of Akron, New York Insitute of Technology, the American University in Dubai, Unviersity of Maryland Global Campus, and Elizabeth City State University, as well as in the South Carolina public school system. I teach all levels of Composition, from Developmental to Advanced, all levels of British, American, and World Literatures, Business Writing, and I am a published fiction writer. I teach and tutor Latin at both the high school and university levels. I have taught IB and AP Latin in the South Carolina public school system, and have taught both beginning and advanced Latin at the University of South Carolina, Kent State University, and Elizabeth City State University.

My favorite part of my job is to develop understanding in my students--to see that understanding begin to light in their eyes, and know that I was a part of another human being gaining knowledge or part of a skill set that will remain with them the rest of their lives.

I have a Ph.D. in British Literature from Kent State University, an M.A. in British Literature and Creative Writing from the University of South Carolina, and a B.A. in English and Classical Studies from the University of South Carolina. I have been on the full-time faculty at the University of South Carolina, Elizabeth City State University, New York Institute of Technology, and the University of Maryland Global Campus. I have also taught in the South Carolina public school system.

About the lesson

I like to assess the level of each student's skill, and during the first meeting I like to speak to the student about what he or she is having the most trouble with--and with parents and teachers if applicable--as well as to look at previous assignments. I like to focus on those assignments in which the student did not do so well. After that initial consultation, I will set up a syllabus of sorts--a roadmap from where we are to where we need to be, in the time that we have to read our goal.

Dr. Jasper tutored me for my AP Latin exam. He seems to know everything about the subject, not just the grammar and things, but also the history and lives of the writers. He was always on time, and always spent the full hour we paid for.

Dr. Jasper taught me AP Latin at Dreher High School in Columbia, South Carolina. He was the greatest. He not only helped with the translation of Virgil, but taught the history of Virgil's writing, and the history of the Aeneid. I recommend him.
