About Ida
I have always been good at math, but without a good teacher, it was near impossible to learn new concepts. Because math is a subject that builds on prior knowledge, fundamentals are especially important. Because each student is unique, I teach math the way the student understands it. This may mean working through multiple techniques until one is successful. My method of tutoring encourages the student to work through problems, and then teach them back to me. As they say, the only way to truly know if you understand something is to try to teach it to another person.
I love experiencing the moment of clarity my student feels after working through a problem or concept. It is a joy to constantly witness success. I have been working as a tutor for over 10 years and the "aha" moment has always been my favorite part of the job.
I started coaching basketball in high school and discovered my love for working with children. I started to peer tutor for classes that required one-on-one help in addition to an instructor. In college, I began private tutoring, and worked for an agency. I have since been able to continue tutoring through referrals.
I majored in a subject that relied heavily on advanced math in college. In my career, I also use a lot of arithmetic and problem solving. I have been a tutor since 2008 in various levels of math, but thrive in Algebra and elementary math. I have also worked with children of all ages in childcare, research, and coaching in addition to tutoring.

I like to get to know my student's educational history, including previous math classes and grades, concepts they understand easily, and things they struggle with. I like to review fundamentals to make sure they know multiplication before we move onto multiplying fractions.
I have worked with students in elementary, middle school, and high school. Some students have been very disciplined while others need help concentrating, learning study techniques, and reviewing fundamentals.
I think it is important to make sure that the tutor and the student feel comfortable working together. If a student needs tutoring, they usually are not getting enough from their school teacher. In order to fully engage a student, a tutor should not repeat the same things outside the classroom. Instilling confidence in the student is usually the most effective tool.
I recently had a student who was so excited to teach her lesson to me because she finally understood what was happening in class! I love knowing that I am making a difference in their lives and making them more independent learners.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
My only rule is a student must try. If you dont listen to the lesson, read the lesson, or try the problems, no matter how many teachers and tutors you have, it will never make a difference. Also, a student should be comfortable asking questions, regardless of how many times a subject has been reviewed.

Experienced, engaging, and patient are the words I would use to describe Ida. Both my kids love working with her. She started by working with my son who is in 10th grade and later my 7th grade daughter. She is very intelligent and a natural teacher. She breaks each problem into thinking steps and teaches the kids in a way that they can apply the concept even when she is not around. She has really transformed the way they approach learning. What I really love about working with her is that she doesn’t just do math homework with the kids, she teaches them! My kids are happier and more sure of themselves. I’m so happy I found Ida and I whole heartedly recommend her.
