About Wesley

I have been working as a calculus and below math tutor at UWM for roughly two years now and have been tutoring friends and family ever since Middle School. I believe that if you are unable to explain something to someone else, you do not truly know it. Other than my teaching experiences I do some balance testing for a board game company I co-own, I really enjoy puzzles and games that involve strategy/critical thinking.

That moment when the students eyes light up when the subject they are working on just 'clicks'. I really enjoy knowing that I was able to help a student learn something they have been struggling on.

I originally started by tutoring my peers, I was the "math guy" all the way from elementary to now. I really enjoy teaching and helped the majority of my friends prep for the AP Calculus exam in high school.

I am currently working towards my masters in Economics. I am a semesters credit count away from reaching my double major in economics and mathematics.

About the lesson

I like to start by going over homework problems that the student is struggling with and explaining the way that I view the problems. In the end its about finding a way to solve them that works for each individual so the first step is always understanding how people think.

Just about everyone, I have tutored middle and high schoolers, a few elementary schoolers, my main tutoring base though has been college students as I have been employed as a higher level math tutor for my university for over two years now.

What do you struggle with? Why do you need a tutor? If you answer those questions and the person you are debating hiring does not look like someone who fits that description, DONT HIRE THEM.

The event that I'm always fond of is when I see a students eyes light up when the subject they have been working on finally makes sense, I enjoy getting to revel in the fact that I was able to help someone with something they have been struggling with.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try to figure out where the topics you are learning stopped making sense, math curriculum is structed like a tower, if you don't learn something early on it will effect the whole foundation as you try to build the tower. It is best if you know what it is that just doesn't 'click' as that is always a good place to start.

Everything is negotiable, I'm fine with a lower rate if money is an issue.

My main goal is getting to pay for tuition each year but I'm definitely going to keep tutoring even if I reach my goal :)
