About Nicholas

I'm just a dude trying to have a great time passing on knowledge to those who need it in a friendly and comforting manner! I don't give off the same air as a professional educator, but I'm no laid-back slouch either! I carry along a paper tablet, which acts as a place for me to write any necessary information about students' needs and as a great workstation for students to quickly write notes down and easily erase things on the fly, instead of having to rely on annoyances such as things not erasing clearly on paper or any other inconveniences paper brings!

I love seeing my assistance make a positive impact on a student's grades and in some cases their lives! It is a great experience to bring someone up from failing a class, and to see them grow as a person, rather than just continue to fail and lack understanding and even responsibility in some cases. Strengthening someone's understanding of something is also a great feeling, especially when the student feels confident about what they do instead of worrying about every little stroke of the pencil they make on paper!

I believe it all started when I was a freshman, where I was placed into classes with a ton of unruly seniors and juniors who had no idea what was going on. People were always coming over to my desk to ask me for help on homework questions and for me to explain whatever the teach was going over. Of course I couldn't decline, since this was a great chance for me to make friends, so I'd set some time aside before and after class to help individuals or groups of students, especially before tests. I had several people thanking me for my assistance in maintaining a passing grade. One guy went from getting like 13s on quizzes to getting 70s, and if that's not impressive for a senior who gave up all responsibility in a class, then I don't know what is!

I'm a high school graduate with a couple of years of calculus under my belt, and an inherent love for math. I aspire to be an actual teacher one day, and the experience here will definitely be its own unique kind of education. I was in the Math Honors Society, and helped teach several students my age!

Making sure a student knows the fundamentals before adding difficulty to anything is an important part of what I try to accomplish! I do my best to provide a base for the student's knowledge so that they can at the very least understand what is being presented to them. I go along with the pace of the student, never making them feel at unease with any time restrictions, and maintaining an air of comfort so that nothing feels forced or stressful. I try to make my students feel like they are "at home" when it comes to their feelings during working!

I have worked with a decent variety of students, ranging from almost completely unwilling to cooperate, to really smart people who just needed a small push to get them to understand topics. I have met a few people who struggle to understand things, even when explained several times at a super slow pace, and that is alright! Everyone learns at their own pace, and with the right kind of encouragement and enough time and patience, eventually they will understand things at least on a very basic level, and that's more than enough to work with!

The only advice I have would be to try to find really friendly and patient people, because those traits are SUPER important when trying to learn a difficult subject or topic. Without positive forces, it's hard to make any clear headway on the work that you do and your understanding of it. Stress only makes matters worse when it comes to trying to learn something new, or reviewing something you don't really fully understand.

Any event? Recently I was a photographer for my relative's wedding, and it was a blast! Even if I'm not a professional, I got a handful of picture frame worthy shots, and all in all it was a great experience for practice! The view was beautiful too, so even when I wasn't taking pictures, I could admire the scenery and relax. Not to mention the endless food!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe it is important to know beforehand what you really need to ask, as in, a clear explanation for what you need to study for, or what you need to learn. It doesn't always mean give names of lessons or chapters, but it could mean the contents of those said lessons or chapters, such as a specific process to do something or maybe a student needs to see a visual instead of reading text, and they want things to be shown rather than fed to them off a paper!

I'd prefer to keep things cheaper, since I'm not exactly a professional, and I want to make sure people have an accessible source of help! I would like to have prices set at $25 an hour for Algebra 2 and below, and $30-35 an hour for classes such as Pre-Calculus and Calculus
