About Jillian
This past May, I graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Russian. I also received a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Rutgers Business School. I was very active in college! I am a sister of Sigma Delta Tau; I was a member of the Rutgers Economics Society, led and participated in Rutgers Hillel activities, and volunteered as a chef at the Ronald McDonald House in New Brunswick.
I am a very family-oriented person; I have three younger siblings who mean the world to me. In fact, it was my siblings who prompted me to become a tutor. My sister, Jenna, who is a student at Rutgers University, actually praises me for her Calculus grade, and she never submits a paper before I review it -- there is nothing I love more than that! My two youngest siblings are still in elementary school. I also help them study for history and understand basic mathematics, but I really cannot wait for them to start writing papers!
All in all, I absolutely adore children! Being able to make a difference in their lives and help them achieve their goals is the most incredible feeling.
I started by helping my younger siblings with their homework. I fell in love with the feeling of being able to help out! After years of hearing my siblings tell me to become a tutor, I finally decided to do it.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and Russian as well as a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from Rutgers University. I completed my undergraduate education with high honors.

I always begin by reviewing the material prior to our tutoring sessions. I create a "lesson plan" that essentially acts as a guide to keep us on track and ensure that we cover all areas of interest during our session -- just like minutes at a business meeting. I also create and/or find review questions for us to work through during our session. I have learned that children/adolescents retain much more information by actually working through problems on their own rather than simply studying material. Typically, mathematics, calculus, and economics questions are open-ended, whereas grammar and history are multiple choice.
When I tutor children/adolescents who struggle with writing, I like to begin by reviewing one or two of their previous papers prior to the session to see what areas need to be improved. In addition, I have created a general writing "lesson plan" that simplifies the professional writing processes and explains how to write an A+ paper step-by-step; I am proud to say that I have found it to be very helpful.
I have worked with elementary school children who struggle with mathematics, history, grammar, and writing as well as high school students who struggle with precalculus, calculus, algebra, writing, grammar, SAT prep, statistics, macroeconomics, and microeconomics. I have also worked with college students who needed help with professional writing (i.e. term papers, research papers, resumes, business proposals, cover letters, etc.), economics, econometrics, statistics, calculus 1, and history.
I would advise the student to speak with his or her teacher/professor prior to hiring a tutor. I would also encourage the student to study the material given in class and ask questions about it! Bumping into a problem on your own and asking questions to help solve it is the best way to learn.
I am extraordinarily fond of Rutgers University Dance Marathon, affectionately known as RUDM, which is a year-long fundraising effort by the students of Rutgers University. The fundraising efforts culminate at the end of the year into a marathon during which students unite and stand on their feet for 12-hours to show our support for the children who cannot. The event is incredible and beyond rewarding. The miracle families attend the event, which gives the children a day to forget the hospital visits, have fun, and enjoy themselves. This year, we raised over $2 million to support children and their families during times of unimaginable, unexplainable hardships. Seeing how appreciative the families were and meeting the children was the most incredible experience!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Sometimes students do not know what they are truly struggling with. I would encourage students to complete a few questions on their own and jot down questions if need be. When it comes to writing, I would encourage students to speak to their instructors to see what areas need improvement.

Made a huge difference.
We’re very happy with Jillian. She is always prepared and it is very obvious that she refreshes her own knowledge before every session. So glad we found her!!
Very happy!!!!
She’s awesome! She always has a study guide with info and questions for my daughter to look at and review. The girls get along great and we’ve seen a lot of improvement in my daughter’s 6th grade math scores. Love her!

I typically charge between $50-$80 per session, conditional on the subject manner, location, and availability. That being said, I want to help; I love to help, and I would hate to turn a child away because of high prices. Please contact me to inquire about pricing.
Sessions range from no less than one hour to two hours maximum. However, I DO NOT CHARGE for extra time; I simply do not end the session until the child understands the material, whether that takes one hour or two hours.
