About Feng
While learning music requires strength and hard work from a person, it should be fun nevertheless. During my teaching career I always strive for bringing the joy of creativity to my students. I believe that even the most difficult musical concepts and techniques can be explained in ways that is engaging and easy to understand. In order to achieve that I always pick my teaching method based on the specific personality and musical background of my students. However, no matter which type of teaching method is chosen, communication is always an indispensable component of an successful teacher-student relationship. Simply telling the students what to do will not give them the tools for self-expression, not mentioning individualism which is essential to a person’s artistic enjoyment and growth. A balance between technique, musicality, theory and creativity is always maintained during the lessons. These 4 basic components of music learning are the building blocks for my students’ lasting interest in pursuing music.
As a teacher it brings me such joy to see that my students grow to become better musicians day by day. To help my students to understand how music works, how to feel and be cretive with music is my goal. It makes me so happy to see that under my guidance they are able to express music in their own way, because I believe that music is a very personal art. On top of all these, sharing music, talking about music and playing music with my students are just pure fun to no end for me.

I would usually talk to the student or have him/her play a piece so I can have a sense of who they are and where they are in the process of learning music. Everything said in the first coupe of lessons would't be as intense because the student still need time to get used to me and my teaching style, and during this process lots of communication, humor and encouragment need to happen so the student feel invigorated and inspired. Most importantly, some kind of plan needs to happen in order to fix his/her bad habits if there are any, to propel them forward in their technical and musical proficiency, and to keep the students interested and inspired.

Feng is a great teacher, very patient and very easy to work with. My son (8 yo) and daughter (6) have been studying with him for over a year and they have demonstrated great improvement with sight reading as well as technical playing. Feng is tuned into the ability and needs of each of his students. He is passionate about teaching and sharing his knowledge, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to continue to study with Feng!
