About Owen

Hello everyone! My name is Owen Hans and I am a current music student at Boston University. I am majoring in Tuba Performance. Music has been the largest part of my life and I am looking forward to sharing it with you and others!

I teach beginner to intermidiate levels of music theory. I have played in classical ensembles for 8 years now and have played the tuba for 7 of those. I have been composing and arranging my own music since I was 13. Since then, I have achieved 3rd prize in the International Tuba and Euphonoium Conference's Young Artist Competition, made the North Carolina All-State Band 4 times (making principal tuba twice) and the North Carolina All-District Band 5 times (making principal 4 times.) I performed 3 seasons with the Triangle Youth Brass Band's Watson Band which achieved 2nd place at the NABBA Championships twice while I attended.

I have written music for 5 years now and have had many of my pieces/arrangements performed by my peers. I composed and adapted my high school band's marching band show for its 2019 season where we achieved 1st place at 3 out of 4 of our competitions with consistent awards in music effect and performance.

You can reach out to me at (concealed information) to get in touch. Below is also a link to my YouTube channel if you would like to hear my compositions to see if I am the right fit for you as an instructor. Thanks!

I love sharing the gift of music with others, and making music yourself is something that is priceless and can touch the hearts of many. I hope to make this very accessable to people and help them achieve their own goals!

Because of my special interest in music theory and composition, my band director would often finish lessons and then tell the students to ask me if they had any questions. I'd often find myself helping many members of the class with the certain things they found confusing, not giving up on them until they got full credit for the assignment.

I was in middle and high school band for 7 years and have taken private lessons with a local professor for 3 of those. I have performed on an international stage several times, as well as had my music performed by my peers at concerts and events. I have performed withsome of the top youth ensembles in the country and the state of North Carolina ranging from the All-State Orchestra, All-State Band, and Watson Brass Band. I have vigoriously studied theory and composition for years and was accepted into the music performance and composition school at East Carolina University.

Typically when I begin with someone new, I find their intentions with music and help them formulate a plan or path they can take to find the most success. I find out the individual's level in music and go from there with what they wish to accomplish. If the individual has already had projects they have worked on, I will look and review them and provide them feedback and things they can use to improve. If they are compltely new to writing music I will help them gather all the knowledge and tools they will need to start their journey!

I have mostly worked with students around my own age, however I have given a middle schooler lessons as well. She was very successful in her endevours as a musician in her first year, obtaining first chair in the NC Eastern All-District Band and auditioning for the All-State Band.

Any teacher teaching at a beginner level needs to have very strong communication skills, as well as be relateable for the student. Finding a teacher that you can connect to and understand each other clearly is very key to finding success with that teacher.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The students should have a clear goal in mind; one they can achieve through the lessons the teacher offers. With this goal, they can ask the teacher what they should learn or prepare in order to make the goal obtainable.
