About Hing Tong
I’m a veterinary medicine student at the University of Edinburgh with a strong academic background in biology and a passion for education. Having achieved top grades at both GCSE and A level, I understand the demands of the curriculum and what it takes to succeed. My experience in tutoring has taught me how to break down complex topics, adapt to different learning styles, and build students’ confidence over time. I bring both subject expertise and a patient, encouraging approach to every session, aiming to help students not only improve their grades but also enjoy the process of learning.

I take a tutorial-based approach to tutoring, focused on active engagement and two-way dialogue rather than passive learning. I aim to create a supportive and collaborative environment where students feel confident to ask questions, explore concepts in depth, and develop critical thinking skills. My biology lessons are for students preparing for their GCSEs or A levels, with a strong emphasis on understanding core concepts, exam technique, and applying knowledge in context. Each session is shaped around the student’s individual needs, encouraging them to think aloud, problem-solve actively, and connect ideas rather than simply memorising content. I guide students to take ownership of their learning, offering structure and clarity while promoting discussion, reflection, and genuine understanding.
