About Issy

Hello! I am a classically trained flautist from the Royal College of Music and have been teaching for the last 5 years. I have a DipABRSM in teaching, and am very passionate about working with aspiring musicians. My students have a 100% pass rate in their ABRSM exams, and can also learn about orchestra playing and conservatoire life from me, if they wish to take music further. I am DBS checked.

ABOUT ME: I recently graduated from the Royal College of Music in London with First class honours. During my time there I studied Flute with Gitte Marcusson and was a Baring Foundation Award Holder. Prior to my studies at the RCM, I studied in Manchester at Chetham's School of Music, with Linda Verrier and Fiona Fulton. I have participated in masterclasses with leading flautists such as Katherine Bryan, Adam Walker, Robert Winn, Gareth Davies, Mike Cox and Kate Hill. I have performed with the National Youth Orchestra and Wind Orchestra of Great Britain and played in venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, the Barbican and the Royal Festival Hall, as well as playing for world-renowned conductors such as Edward Gardner, Kristjan Järvi and Nicholas Collon. TEACHING EXPERIENCE: I am very passionate about teaching and have a wealth of experience teaching all ages and backgrounds. Tailoring lessons to fit individual personalities, strengths and weaknesses is a pillar of my teaching. No student is the same! I have learnt with some of the most respected flute teachers in Europe, and pass down their philosophies. I have studied the art of teaching and acquired my ABRSM teaching diploma with distinction. I have a private practice, coaching students of all ages from beginner to advanced standard, in flute, piccolo, piano and music theory. I have helped pupils audition successfully for Chetham’s School of Music and my students have a 100% ABRSM pass rate. Alongside private tutoring, I have spent the last few years leading and assisting in outreach workshops. This has ranged from classes with toddlers, using music-making to improve their confidence and communication skills, to aiding GCSE and A-Level students with their compositions and performances in schools around London. I am an advocate for the power of music and I love to bring the joy of it to as many people as she can. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY: I have a relaxed and flexible approach to teaching music. I don't enforce any particular route upon my students, and make sure that their journey is suited to their wishes and personality. I think it is very important that my students enjoy our lessons and we have a good rapport. I hope to inspire younger players by showing them what their instrument can do, and that if they work hard it isn't far off. I have a lot of experience with playing and I can help give students a real idea of the music industry and the years ahead of them. I can aid all levels of player, be it beginner or a more advanced student, and offer them the best technique training, as well as inspiring their musicality.
