About Sarah
I am currently a fourth year history student at the University of Edinburgh currently predicted a first class degree. I studied History, English Literature and Geography at A-Level achieving A, A, A* as well as obtaining 9 A*s and an A at GCSE. I went to one of the top independent girls' schools in the country (Withington Girls' School) and would thus be well placed to tutor for entrance examinations into schools of a similar academic standard. I would also be delighted to pass on my passion and expertise in History, as well as English literature and Geography as well as overall essay skills and academic confidence. I love encouraging young people, particularly girls, in their education and to this extent I am a member of Edinburgh's Sexpression branch which regularly goes into schools to teach about sex, gender and body confidence. Furthermore, I went through the Oxford application process so would also be able to help coach sixth form students through the HAT exam and prepare for interviews.

I think the key to effective and successful tutoring is a balance between support and independent work. Independent reading and subsequent discussion with the student about their thoughts on a particular subject is, I believe, essential to developing both understanding and confidence. I love worksheets, tables and charts which can help to organise a students thoughts, revision and work, particularly in subjects like history where chronology and an acute understanding of different areas is essential. Finally, I whole heartedly believe that support, encouragement and praise is essential to the academic development of any student; developing their confidence is key to both enjoying and excelling at academia.
