• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  Yes, English is my native language and I speak it fluently.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  As English is spoken all over the world, It is hard to find one person who is representative of the language's culture. I am from the USA, a country that has a rich diverse population. Our culture is a result of this melting pot of backgrounds and cultures. So I think almost anyone could represent this culture.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  I like the word serendipity, which means the gift of finding valuable things not looked for. I think this word can be applied to language learning in general because when you learn a language you gain so many unexpected insights beyond just a language.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  This is my native language and the subject I have taught for the last 20 years. I have built my career around it. I love helping people learn this language and seeing what opportunities it brings them.

• What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  The main difficulty of learning English is idiomaticity. While the basics are fairly easy, in order to speak and understand fluently one must also learn collocations and phrasal verbs, which make up the intricitries of the language. Natural accusation of the language through reading and listening can help one learn English more naturally.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  A valuable anecdote I learned at school about language learning is that learning a new language broadens your horizons and opens your mind to new opportunities and a better understanding of yourself, a culture and its people.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  Traveling around the world has taught me how important English is to people all over the world for many different reasons and how learning English can change the future of so many people.

  I have taught English for the past 20 years. I taught 16 years in a language school in Los Angeles. I taught all levels of grammar, reading comprehension, writing, communication skills, pronunciation and test preparation including TOEFL, IELTS, and Cambridge FCE & CAE. I have taught all these subjects online now for the past 4 years. I have the experience and knowledge to help people achieve their language goals whether they are learning for personal or professional reasons. I have helped many people increase their fluency, gain confidence and pass exams. I am flexible and patient and love helping people.
