About Anna
I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2021 with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a minor in Biology. I have spent the last year leaving in Dresden, Germany and working on a cancer research project as a Fulbright Scholar. Throughout college, I consistently tutored my teammates (I was on the DI Women's Rowing team!) in subjects that they were having difficulty in, particularly in the sciences. More recently, I have been tutoring summer school pre-calc. I have always loved teaching and helping students gain knowledge and confidence. Being a college athlete taught me how to manage my time well and successfully balance numerous commitments. I am also very patient and dedicated to what I do, and love coming up with new and creative ways to help students understand hard concepts.

I am a strong believer in student-driver learning and apply this principle to all my lessons. I usually will start the lesson by asking my student what specific topics they are having difficulties with and focus on those for the session. At a middle and high school level, where student usually have assigned homework for each class, I will have the student attempt to solve the problems we are focusing on while explaining their thought process. Once we reach a point where they do not know what to do I will ask guiding question to help them reach the answer. I find that this builds confidence and helps the student understand exactly why we approach problems a certain way. At a college level, students do not always have consistent homework, so if necessary I will create examples for them to work on so we can address subjects they are having more difficulty with. As a lot of college level biology is also more theoretical, I will spend more time talking through the theory.
I can teach any middle and high school level biology class, as well as any college level biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or genetics class.
