About Dom

Geography is a subject that has intrigued me for many years now. My interest in this field started at primary school, with maps and atlases, along with committed teachers, operating as the main source of geographical knowledge at that time. These resources offered opportunities to learn about places all over the world, such as countries, cities, oceans, rivers, deserts and mountains, with these evolving entities proving to be a source of wonder ever since.
Such places have motivated me to explore how such places have come to be as well as why they play a crucial role in our daily lives. So therefore by exploring and questioning our surroundings I have acquired a good deal of geographical knowledge that I would be delighted to share with those also studying this tremendous subject. Whether you are having difficulty with an essay on megacities or need some help interpreting climate graphs, please do not hesitate to get in touch as we set out on a productive learning journey together.

About the lesson

Regardless of the subject, I like to focus on the broader topic to gather an insight into a student's overall level of understanding. In addition to offering a baseline to work with, it also serves to simplify the topic, which is essential in order to overcome challenges that are being experienced. It also involves breaking down the topic into smaller components so that learning can occur incrementally and at one's own pace. This is important in terms of building confidence which one needs in order to achieve the success that you are after!

In terms of prior experience, for 2 years I tutored students from disadvantaged backgrounds in a number of subjects such as Maths, Geography and English. In addition, I also tutored students from non-English speaking backgrounds whilst completing a TEFL Certificate over a 3 month period. Also helped fellow students with essays and reports whilst completing a Geography degree at University of Newcastle.

As someone who is passionate about geography, I love to discuss all aspects of this fascinating subject, whether its about countries, cities, cultures, landforms, migration, environmental issues, food security and so on. Also possess a number of maps and atlases which add value to the learning experience from a visual perspective.

I am happy to tutor anyone that is studying Geography, regardless of whether students are at primary, secondary or university level. When I tutored previously, sessions typically last for 1-2 hours but I am happy to run sessions that suit your purposes.
