About Melissa
I am currently a grad student at the University of Connecticut. I just recently received my degree in Comprehensive Special Education (grades K-12). I am currently working on receiving my master's degree in Educational Psychology. I have had numerous experiences working with students across many different grades. Some notable experiences include teaching a Precalculus course to incoming college freshmen and student teaching in a K-3 resource room for students in special education. I specialize in mathematics and have taken up to Calculus 4 at my university.

I start where you are at and use the appropriate amount of supports to get you to where you need to be. I scaffold each lesson by using a modeling, guided practice, and independent practice format where I will first demonstrate how to do a problem using a certain strategy, have you practice the strategy with a lot of guidance from me, and lastly have you practice the strategy independently. I will add or remove supports as needed throughout each lesson. I like to teach various strategies for problems so you can determine which one works best for you. I also have experience teaching with a concrete, representational, abstract (CRA) model where I have you first learn a concept with concrete, hands-on experience before working with abstract numbers. My goal is to boost your confidence in math and give you the skills you need to be able to apply them independently.
