About Hui

I studied Graduate Diploma in Secondary Teaching and studied a Master degree in Education after that. I have been tutoring IELTS and general conversational English for more than 5 years now, one on one or in groups. My latest speaking score is 9 (full mark), which more than 93% of the native speakers cannot get according to IELTS' official report. I enjoy being a freelance teacher, so I can design my own curriculum and personalise everyone's learning materials then track everyone's progress without having to work for an institution and have less freedom in implementing my own teaching method. I always believe that I am a great teacher with patience when providing guidance. Apart from that, my class can be a think tank if you are really engaged where students can brainstorm and elaborate whenever they want because the thinking process can accelerate the efficiency of absorbing knowledge. By saying that, a lot of the feedback from my past students is they didn't feel that they spent a lot of time learning, but as a result, they learnt a lot through asking questions. As a teacher full of fun ideas and academic knowledge, I can't wait to share with more students and hopefully help those who are in need of passing IELTS. Because I HAVE BEEN THERE AND I FEEL YOU.

About the lesson

When I am tutoring IELTS speaking, I usually design the learning materials according to their background and since their starting lines and aiming marks are different, so sometimes I need more scaffolding, sometimes more students-centric. But one of my common methodologies is to deconstruct with students first, making sure they know what we are doing, then reinforce the knowledge by co-creating with my guidance. The final stage is where students can produce what they learnt and use in their own context. Throughout the class, I would be correcting grammatical mistakes as it is a very critical criteria that the examiner focuses on. Also, I will be focusing on improvements that students can make on a lexical level, which requires me to know students' profile well enough to know where can be changed that is a bit more difficult and authentic than the language they used, but not too difficult to remember or even create a negative attitude towards language learning.
