About Virginia
I have been acting/exposed to the subject of theater since the age of four. I started on stage around that age in local community programs for children. Many of these programs happened over the course of an entire summer. In these early days, I learned how to run stage crew, work with lighting and sound technicians, run props, and build sets. On the performative side of things, I learned acting basics like blocking, vocal projection, typical dos and don'ts, how to take stage direction, character development, and scene partner connection.
I then took all of this knowledge through my young years of performing and into a program high school where I was given the opportunity for an early majors program. I chose theater as my major, excelled in my studies, and applied for several acting programs in college. I received generous academic AND performance scholarships to continue my theater studies in undergrad. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting in 2020 and have been doing creative projects since. I hope to share my knowledge and passion for the art form with those who need it!

I would consider my teaching method to be individualized/differentiated learning where I tailor my instruction to diverse learning needs and styles. My students will get to take information that I give them and apply it practically. Then they get to become the experts and tell me if they thought it was right or wrong. This is all with the goal in mind that I want them to feel that they own the information and are confident in their use of it.
A typical lesson plan will begin with one trouble area that the student has shared with me. We will do a specific warm up for this subject, review any relevant material for it afterwards, I will give direct instruction on the subject, they will then have an opportunity for guided practice, and then a closing (low stakes) assessment.
I tutor middle school to high school aged students as well as individuals who simply want to learn more about the subjects that I teach. What sets me apart as a tutor is my casual approach to teaching. My students will not feel any kind of embarrassment or pressure while still retaining the knowledge and even having fun doing it !
