About Madison
I graduated from Emory University as a biology major and dance minor. I enjoy working with students who are motivated to learn and improve their skills in a particular subject area. Working with disciplined and determined students motivates me as a teacher to offer thorough feedback on their work and ensuring that they fully understand why a specific answer is the correct one.
Throughout my college experience, I worked as a tutor and frequently interacted with tutors. This experience offered helpful insight into how to work with students and advance their skills and knowledge in both biology and math. I also have experience working with students in elementary school as I participated in a volunteer program designed to improve their reading comprehension skills.

I teach students by first reviewing the question and determining what biological concepts are related to the problem. I ask the student to then tell me what they already know about those key biological concepts. After establishing our starting point, I work with my student in applying the information we know to answer the question. I guide them in the right direction by asking insightful questions and assure them that it is okay to feel confused and encourage them to review their textbook or class notes as well. As a tutor, I prioritize making sure my students do not simply memorize information, but fully comprehend how and why they got to the correct answer. Essentially, we are problem-solving together and building the necessary skill set for applying information and thinking critically.
