About Matt
I spent 8 years as a Social Studies teacher in public school, teaching ages ranging from 8th grade all the way up to 12th grade. The subject matters that I have gained experience in have consisted of Early United States History (Colonization-Reconstruction), Modern United States History (Westward Expansion-Modern Day), Civics & Government. I have developed vast experience in each of these areas and continue to learn more myself every year! I love to spend time thinking through a time in history and helping my students understand the importance of that era and why it matters to our modern day.

My approach is to meet students where they are at in their knowledge of Social Studies/History and challenge them to expand on that knowledge! I love to pull from many different resources such as books, podcasts, videos, and much more. History is a subject that requires comprehension and an ability to explain an event or time and understand why that event matters. Without understanding history we fail to understand our world today!
I seek to help my students to comprehend a subject through discussion, writing, presentation, and many other forms. If you can teach the subject you will definitely learn the subject! My goal is to help my students become the expert and develop the confidence to explain historical concepts and why they matter to anyone!
