About Emma
Hello! My name is Emma, and I am a Master of Social Work (MSW) student dedicated to helping elementary students find their "math confidence."
I graduated from the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) with a degree in Psychology. During my time there, I mastered the science of how we learn and how our emotions affect our performance. I also excelled in Statistics, which gave me a deep, logical understanding of how numbers work. Here is a professional and warm introduction you can use. It highlights your education, your background in psychology and statistics, and your heart for helping children.

My Teaching Style: "Feeling Good, Learning Better"
I believe that kids can’t learn math if they are stressed or scared of making mistakes. My method is all about making math feel safe.
Small Steps: I break big problems into tiny, easy pieces so your child feels successful right away.
Hands-On Learning: We use blocks, drawings, and games to see how math works before we ever try to do it all on paper.
Changing the Inner Voice: I help students move from saying "I'm bad at this" to "I'm still practicing this."
A Typical 60-Minute Lesson
The Hello (5 mins): We start by chatting about their day. If they are tired or stressed, I adjust the lesson to help them feel comfortable.
Warm-Up (10 mins): A fun math game to get their brain "waking up" without any pressure.
The Main Goal (20 mins): I teach the new math topic using pictures and examples that make sense to them.
Working Together (15 mins): We solve problems together. I listen to how they think so I can catch any "stuck" points.
The High-Five Finish (10 mins): We talk about one thing they are proud of today so they end the session feeling like a winner.
Why Me?
Most tutors only care about the right answer. Because of my Social Work background, I care about the whole child.
Patience: I stay calm and encouraging, especially when things get tough.
Stress Tools: I teach kids how to take deep breaths and stay calm when they see a hard question on a school test.
Understanding Feelings: I can tell the difference between a child who is "confused" and a child who is just "scared to fail," and I know how to help with both.
