About Amanda

My goal is to provide students with time and material that will help them learn - not just memorize - but also understand the subject from a very high or detailed level. Not only do I teach in a professional manner and teach content within the industry standard- I also provide information at a lay person's level so that information is broken down and easy to understand. I have four children that range from ages 3 to 17. My 8-year-old is in the 3rd grade and in the magnet program where we live. This program is for students who need more challenging and advanced work than a traditional student at her grade level. Magnet students are recognized starting at 3rd grade, referred to the magnet school, and then invited to attend. My 17-year-old received an A in every subject since 1st grade, completed all coursework by 10th grade and invited by her high school to "junior jump" and complete her senior classes in conjunction with her junior classwork- allowing her to graduate high school Summa Cum Laude and begin her Freshman year at a University College at the age of 16 years old - all while being offered a merit scholarship that pays for 4 years of college in the pre-med program. This university college providing the merit scholarship to pay for her tuition was 1 of 25 to 30 college invitations that landed in our mailbox. We are A students in our household. I say "we" because this includes myself who always strives for A's in school. It is my requirement for my kiddos. If my children are not receiving A's on their assignments, my goal is to learn why, and then help them understand so that the material is learned. Teachers at school do not always have time to help one student when they have so many others to teach. That is where I come in. I love teaching my children and helping them in a way that they can understand so that the next time the material is presented to them, such as during the next assignment or during the unit test, they no longer struggle with the subject that did not earn the A previously. They now know and understand what they did not understand before. My job as a parent is to help my children reach their potential, get A's, get invited to a university college on a scholarship, and grow to become smart, loving, well-paid individuals with great careers. This applies to everyone I am able to help, teach, or mentor. For those already in college or working in their desired career, my experience as a college instructor and mentor at my job has allowed me to help anyone- in school or at work or just wanting to learn because the subject interests them. I initially began my college career with the intentions of graduating to become a registered nurse. Once I entered the bachelor of nursing program and completed a semester, I decided to change my major to software engineering. This change in career path has allowed me to consume a wide range of knowledge from medical and human science to computers and technology. With my college background and my experience as a mother, teacher, and software engineer- I have a broad and in-depth understanding of a large range of subjects with the professional experience one would need to learn from. I love teaching what I know. It brings me joy to help another understand what I have spent time learning and practicing.

-I am very hands on with those that I am teaching. I will work with you virtually; to include an online call utilizing a platform such as MS Teams or Zoom so that I can screen share and talk face to face with my student. Learning is accomplished in several different ways- from hearing, from seeing, and from doing. Every person is different, which means one person learns best from watching another person do what is being taught and then practice what they just watched, while another person learns best by hearing a teacher explain to them how something is done.
One on one virtual calls with myself and my student, allows the student to see, hear, and practice the subject matter during our call while receiving immediate feedback from me. I can learn from my student by seeing how they need help and I am able to fine tune my teaching style of showing, explaining, or requesting more hands on interaction from my student during our meetings.

- A typical lesson with my student would include: finding what my student is needing the most help with at that moment in time. For example: a college or grade school student is needing a homework assignment that has to be completed but my student needs further instruction to understand how to complete it or better understand the content. Another example may entail- a student is struggling in a particular subject at school and requires one on one tutoring to become proficient and excel in the trouble subject

- A typical lesson with my student would also include: working together to complete the lesson plan that was created for them when our initial meeting outlined a specific plan and timeline for the subject that my student is currently learning from my private lessons. One does not have to be a student at a school to utilize my services. I am happy to teach any person at any level- I am here to help teach what you want to learn.

-How can I help? Why hire me? I have created and taught my own college classes online. I worked as an adjunct professor for over 2 years at a community college. I have experience teaching students in an online classroom setting while also working with my students one on one in private meetings. I was an online teacher while having a second job as a software engineer and web developer. I have worked in the technology industry for the past 5 years.
