About David

Meet Your Music Tutor – David Kofi Mensa Stephens

Hello and welcome! My name is David Kofi Mensa Stephens, and I am a passionate music educator with over 14 years of experience teaching, inspiring, and mentoring young musicians.

Throughout my teaching career, I have had the privilege of working with students in some of Ghana’s outstanding educational institutions, including Ghana National College, where I served as Band Director, as well as Wesley Girls High School and Holy Child School, where I worked as a Music Instructor. I currently serve as an Instrumental Music Teacher at Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.

My teaching philosophy is centered on the belief that every student has the potential to grow musically when given the right guidance, encouragement, and opportunities to learn. I strive to create engaging, supportive, and student-centered lessons that build musical skills, develop confidence, encourage creativity, and nurture a lifelong love of music.

Whether you are a beginner taking your first steps into music or a developing musician looking to improve your technique and performance, I tailor my lessons to your individual goals, interests, learning pace, and musical abilities. I believe learning music should be both educational and enjoyable, so I incorporate practical activities, demonstrations, guided practice, and constructive feedback into my teaching.

Beyond teaching musical skills, I am deeply committed to mentoring young musicians, helping them discover their talents, develop discipline, express themselves creatively, and build the confidence to reach their full potential.

My goal is not just to teach you how to play music, but to help you understand, appreciate, create, and experience the joy of making music.

I look forward to being part of your musical journey and helping you achieve your musical goals. Let's make music together.

About the lesson

Have you ever picked up a guitar, tried a few online tutorials, and felt completely overwhelmed by endless videos, buzzing strings, or confusing chord charts?

You don't need hours of dry drills or abstract music theory to sound great. You just need a clear, step-by-step path tailored exactly to how you learn.

Music is meant to be shared. In every lesson, we will play side-by-side, helping you build solid timing, rhythm, and the confidence to perform for friends and family.

I’ve known David for 21 years. We read music together in the same SHS, proceeded to the University to further music together. David’s life has always been about music. He plays the guitar, saxophone, piano, clarinet, flute, just to name a few. We’ve inspired each other in our musical journey. David has taught numerous individual students, school bands and church choirs. One remarkable trait about him is his patience. I highly recommend David to students of all age groups.
