* Direct instruction to clearly teach new concepts and skills
* Demonstrations and modeling to show students how to approach tasks and problem-solving
* Student-centered learning that encourages active participation and engagement
* Inquiry-based learning to promote critical thinking and curiosity
* Project-based learning to make lessons meaningful and relevant
* Differentiated instruction tailored to each student’s individual strengths, needs, and learning style
* Positive reinforcement and encouragement to build confidence and motivation
* Continuous assessment and adjustment of teaching strategies to ensure student success

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like

Each lesson is designed to provide structure, support, and meaningful progress.

1. Warm-Up and Review
* Recap previously learned material
* Check for understanding and retention
* Address any questions or concerns
2. Introduction of New Material
* Teach a new concept or skill using clear explanations and examples
* Connect new learning to prior knowledge
3. Guided Practice
* Work through problems, activities, or assignments together
* Provide immediate feedback and support
4. Independent Practice
* Encourage students to apply skills on their own
* Build confidence and independence
5. Reflection and Goal Setting
* Review progress made during the session
* Set goals and focus areas for future lessons

If a student needs additional practice with a particular skill, I am patient and willing to revisit concepts until they feel confident and demonstrate understanding.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

What truly distinguishes me as a tutor is my ability to build meaningful relationships with students while adapting instruction to their individual needs.

* Ten years of experience as a special education teacher
* Strong background in reading, writing, phonics, and language arts
* Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and abilities
* Highly adaptable and able to adjust instruction in real time
* Patient, encouraging, and committed to student growth
* Focus on building confidence as well as academic skills
* Create a supportive one-on-one partnership with each student
* Teach students how to learn, not just what to learn
* Foster independence, self-advocacy, and lifelong learning skills

While many tutors focus solely on content knowledge, I focus on understanding the individual student—their strengths, challenges, learning style, and motivation. This personalized approach helps students make lasting progress both academically and personally.

I am committed to meeting every student where they are and helping them grow into confident, capable, and independent learners. Through patience, encouragement, and individualized instruction, I strive to help each student reach their full potential.

Hello, my name is Maeven Blankenship. I have worked with children since the age of fifteen and have dedicated my career to helping students succeed. I volunteered with students with autism, Down syndrome, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and behavioral disabilities before becoming a special education teacher. As a veteran educator with ten years of experience in both resource and self-contained classrooms, I meet students where they are and help them grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Building strong relationships is at the heart of my work, and I treat every child with the respect and dignity they deserve.
