About Shahin

I am a Ph.D. student of Building Engineering at Concordia with the background in Mechanical Engineering. I started playing music since 1998, when I was 5. I started with Persian music (a traditional instrument called Tombak) as a kid and then switched to jazz and blues guitar when I was a teenager. Starting with Jazz music, I found Blues to be my favorite genre by mainly inspired by Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan. After several years of attending different classes, I was selected to be an instructor by my teacher in his music institute. Then, I expanded my career by joining different music institutes trying to put all the knowledge gained from my instructors into teaching to create a solid methodology for different ages of guitar lovers. I also attended different masterclasses including those held by Peter Wölpl and Mahan Mirarab, and also some other ones to improve my knowledge regarding chords and improvisation. I am very patient since I have a lot of teaching experiences in different majors including music and science.

About the lesson

I usually consider the age of the learner since the patience of people usually varies with their ages!
For a beginner, I usually start with note reading (without tabs) and try to work on his/her perception of rhythm! Metronome is always clicking in my classes! After teaching some basic knowledge, I gradually start the music theory, based on what a guitar player needs (this is based on what I collected during these years from different books and instructors).
I am focused on right-hand techniques since I believe that it is of utmost importance in guitar playing and it makes you a versatile guitar player. The genres that cover is mostly blues, funk, blues-rock, and some jazz!
Besides using notes, I help learners to play what they hear by Ear Training methods I gained through the years. I am also interested in playing and teaching Modes that can help learners expand their knowledge.

I also offer one session of free class so as we can talk with each other more about what we expect from each other in a guitar class! Also, you can be familiar with my teaching method better
