About Deirdre
I am based in Poole, near Bournemouth, but I teach online, so I am available wherever you are. If you would like me to tutor you, you will benefit from over 20 years’ experience, successfully teaching thousands of students in the UK and abroad, as well as my passion for English.
I will work with you and focus closely on your individual language needs. Each lesson is tailor-made to your individual requirements with the aim of building your language abilities – fast and effectively with the priorities you want. You will progress better and faster than you ever thought possible…and you will enjoy the lessons too!
I have a neutral, southern English accent, which is very close to the highly-valued Received Pronunciation. You will therefore be taught a high-quality British English accent in my lessons.
I have been teaching for over 20 years. I am a fully-qualified secondary schoolteacher and examiner, with postgraduate teaching qualifications and Qualified Teacher Status in the UK. I worked for many years as a History, RE and English teacher in schools in the south of England. I taught English to 26 MP’s as well as parliamentary groups at the Parliament in Rome, Italy, over 3 years. I also worked for 10 years with the British Council, primarily in North Africa and the Middle East, where I obtained the highest EFL qualification, the Cambridge DELTA. I also have 6 years’ experience as an IGCSE and IELTS examiner.
My qualifications, experience, enthusiasm and proficiency in teaching have led to excellent results from my students both in the UK and abroad, particularly in exam success. I have an open, friendly approach, which is understanding and supportive. Confident, caring and friendly, I have a high level of interpersonal and communication skills and I am able to build rapport with people at all levels. You will find my lessons will motivate you, whilst allowing you to develop at a pace which you find comfortable.
I taught for many years on a face-to-face basis, but I now offer online classes as they provide so much flexibility and accessibility. I like to teach students from the UK and all over the world and today’s technology enables this.
