About Joanne
Adaptable and empathic Canadian certified and New Zealand qualified primary/junior educator with fifteen years of International teaching experience. I spent 5.5 years working in the private and public education sector in Saitama, Osaka, and Chiba in Japan. I spent 2.5 years in New Zealand as a student, relief teacher and ESL teacher to primary through to college aged students both in the public and private sectors. Following that, I travelled to South Korea to continue developing ESL curriculum, teach ESL to public school students and develop, design, implement, assess, and evaluate a first year ECE college course on English instruction using core subjects. Additionally, I was a Senior Kindergarten teacher at a Canadian International School in Cairo, Egypt and I have 2 years of online ESL experience as a previous VIPKID teacher after returning to Canada. Finally, I am currently preparing to teach summer school to at risk students from grades 1 through 2 for 3 weeks this July/August.

Deadly! I'd like to say the lessons with Joanne are quite enjoyable. I had five lessons with her and they are all well prepared. Joanne made a learning plan based on my situation and did a lot of research to help me. Joanne can always point out my weakness on pronunciation and come up with a strategy to improve that. Joanne is always patient and helps me a lot. I‘d like to recommend her to everybody cause she is such a wonderful teacher.
- Jessica was an awesome student and self reflective in nature. She saw an improvement in her pronunciation which in turn positively affected other areas, such as, listening and speaking.Joanne's response :
Deadly! Joanne was soo much more than I was expecting!!!
My English is so much better. The other night we were having dinner with some of my wife's colleges and one of them commented that he was expecting me to have an accent!!!
It is the noise of the restaurant, I am not quite there yet, I only had 10 lessons.
May I add, 10 carefully planned and executed lessons, tailored to my specific needs.
It is like a YouTube experience, she has the white board behind her, proper lighting and all. She does a lot of work before lessons too, examining my speech, making notes and every lesson starts with half the white board already full, then we go over what would be a good approach to resolve the issues and we get on it.
Years of YouTube did not do nearly as well as 10 lessons with Joanne.- Goran (aka Gord) has been a very diligent, responsible, and self motivated student. He completes his homework and has been successful at transferring the theoretical components into practice. Keep up the tremendous progress, Gord!!Joanne's response :
