Just started A-level Economics and finding some of it harder than you expected?

Are you struggling to understand the difference between shifts and movements along demand and supply curves? Not quite sure how interest rates affect inflation? Or are those theory of the firm diagrams proving particularly frustrating?

Sometimes, one small gap in understanding can make other parts of Economics seem much more difficult than they actually are.

I offer targeted A-level Economics masterclasses designed to tackle specific areas of difficulty, build genuine understanding and help students develop the confidence to apply economic theory to real-world examples and exam questions.

You don't necessarily need weekly tutoring. Sometimes one or two focused sessions are enough to clarify a difficult topic, fill a knowledge gap and get a student back on track.

I am an experienced A-level Economics teacher and AQA Examiner, so I understand both the challenges students face when learning Economics and what examiners are looking for in strong exam responses. In-person tutoring is available across Leeds and Wakefield, either at your home or at a suitable public location. I am also happy to discuss small-group tutoring where several students have identified the same area of difficulty or would like to work together on a particular topic.

If your child is finding a particular area of A-level Economics difficult, they may not need months of tutoring — they may simply need the right explanation, some focused practice and a clearer understanding of what the examiner is looking for.

How the Economics Masterclasses Work

Before your first session, we have a free 20-minute online consultation to identify areas of difficulty, prioritise what needs to be covered and agree on a plan.

In a typical 60–90 minute masterclass will then:

1. Identify the gaps
We start with some questions and discussion to establish the student's current level of understanding.

2. Explain and develop understanding
We work through challenging concepts together, plugging knowledge gaps and developing a clear understanding of the relevant theory, diagrams and terminology.

3. Apply the knowledge
Students practise using economic concepts, diagrams and terminology in real-world contexts and exam-style questions.

4. Develop an exam framework
We identify the key concepts, terminology, diagrams and chains of reasoning that could be relevant when answering questions on the topic.

5. Set clear next steps
Students receive specific guidance on what they should work on to strengthen their understanding further.

Where multiple sessions are booked, students will be given exam-style work between sessions, including multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions and essay paragraphs or essays. This allows us to identify strengths and weaknesses and track progress over time.

As well as individual topic masterclasses, I offer more generalised exam technique classes where we focus on essay technique and key concepts that should be included.
