About Mia

I have taught English as a Foreign Language and IELTS preparation in Language Centers and universities in Australia and the Centro Linguistico d'Ateneo di Siena, Italy for 10 years. Additionally, I have been a tertiary educator in universities for more than 10 years. My special interest is assisting academic students to review their essays and theses in the English language. As a native English as well as Italian speaker, I can assist students with direct translation and interpreting concerns to increase confidence in English. Furthermore, I can coach you to present professional papers at international conferences.
As a PhD graduate, I have developed extensive understanding on how to present professional public talks in the Humanities.
I've involved in the performing arts and digital media productions, so I can assist in developing interesting media presentations for your next conference, project proposal or job interview. I'm keen to develop your confidence in speaking and writing English well in a relaxed on-line environment.

About the lesson

The teaching approach that I find the most effective for speaking is the 'building block' method. We develop spoken language in the most natural way, building on each phrase to create a 'living language'. For advance students, we build on what we know with repeated language from your real world. Writing and reading is developed with materials from the real world, current affairs, and your daily life. Interesting materials and current affairs, are important to develop real world language understanding.

For IELTS preparation, I will use IELTS teaching materials and repetition practice or mock examinations. In academic or professional and business English, we can negotiate your needs and I can tailor each session to achieve your outcomes. For presentations and job interviews, I will shadow coach you until you are confident with your project.
