About Edward
I'm Edward, a Maths and Economics student at LSE. I went to Colchester Royal Grammar School and sat my A-levels there in 2024.
For a long time, maths was a set of rules I would follow without knowing why they worked or what the point was. The more time I've spent studying it, the more I've understood its use in my life. I'm not going to pretend you'll use all of it — I haven't used circle theorems yet — but exponentials, logs and statistics I use constantly.
Outside my degree I play football every week, watch Arsenal, and spend a lot of time on music and fitness.
I enjoy teaching because I like seeing students work something out — not just going from stuck to confident, but the times they use a different order or method to the one I used or the one on the answer sheet.

I'm currently at LSE studying Maths and Economics. I teach GCSE to A-level Maths and Further Maths, in which I achieved A* in both, including 96% in Maths. I sat them in 2024, so it's the current specification instead of the ones changed years ago.
I sat Edexcel, though the content is set nationally and is the same across boards, so I can work with AQA, OCR or WJEC students.
Lessons run an hour, which works well weekly, or two hours for intensive revision closer to exams. Before the first session I recommend students submit a past paper or a piece of marked homework, just so I can focus on actual gaps instead of a general recap. If a recap is preferred or needed, I'm glad to start there.
I teach by working through problems with the student instead of lecturing. I find that most students who struggle have learnt the techniques but don't know which one to use on an unfamiliar question, or where to start. When that happens I'll jump in and think out loud through it — it isn't a test, and there's no point leaving someone stuck. Once a student has seen me work through a few, they can usually do it independently, which is the goal.
Suitable for GCSE Foundation and Higher, and A-level. Online, or in person near Colchester.
