About Mark

I hold a master’s degree in biomedical engineering and have over seven years of tutoring experience. I work with students from middle school through college, providing support in mathematics, science, exam preparation, and more.

My engineering background gives me a strong foundation in analytical thinking and problem solving. Through tutoring, I’ve learned how to make challenging ideas approachable and help students build confidence in their abilities. I especially enjoy seeing a student understand a concept they previously found confusing.

I’m patient, dependable, and committed to helping each student make progress toward their goals. I value clear communication, thoughtful preparation, and an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Whether you’re strengthening your foundations, preparing for an important exam, or tackling an advanced course, I aim to provide focused, encouraging support.

My lessons are built around your coursework, current understanding, and goals. I teach precalculus, calculus, physics, chemistry, statistics, and more, helping students strengthen their foundations, prepare for exams, and work through challenging material.

We start by reviewing what you’re studying and identifying where you’re getting stuck. I break each concept into manageable steps, explain the reasoning behind the methods, and work through examples with you. You then try related problems with guidance and feedback, building toward solving them independently.

I use diagrams, visual explanations, and practical applications to make abstract concepts easier to understand. Questions are always welcome, and I adjust the pace to give you additional explanation or a greater challenge when needed.

Each lesson ends with a recap of the key ideas and what to practice next. My goal is to help you leave with a clearer understanding and more confidence approaching unfamiliar problems.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I started helping friends with their studies in middle school and high school. I enjoyed breaking down difficult problems and finding explanations that made sense to them. Those early experiences sparked my interest in tutoring, and I have now been tutoring for over seven years. What continues to motivate me is helping students gain the understanding and confidence to tackle material that once felt out of reach.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you like to discuss with students.

I teach a broad range of STEM subjects, including precalculus, calculus, physics, chemistry, statistics, and biology, working with students from middle school through master’s and doctoral programs. I particularly enjoy exploring connections between subjects: how calculus describes motion, how chemistry explains biological processes, and how statistics helps us interpret evidence. I also enjoy exam preparation, where subject knowledge comes together with strategy, efficient problem solving, and sound judgment.
  • 3) Did you have any role models or a teacher who inspired you?

Several sports figures have inspired me through their consistency, discipline, and work ethic. What I admire is the preparation behind their performance: practicing fundamentals, responding constructively to setbacks, and continuing to improve even after achieving success. Those qualities translate directly to learning. I encourage students to approach their studies with the same mindset, using mistakes as feedback and building confidence through purposeful practice. Progress comes from developing habits they can rely on when the pressure increases.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A strong tutor combines deep subject knowledge with the ability to understand how a student thinks. They should recognize patterns in mistakes, ask questions that reveal understanding, and choose explanations that address the student’s specific needs. Equally important is knowing when to demonstrate a method, when to offer a hint, and when to let the student work independently. Patience, preparation, and clear expectations make that process productive. The goal is to develop a student’s ability to reason, check their work, and approach unfamiliar problems with confidence.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

In high school, I was helping a friend understand the difference between average and instantaneous rates of change. I explained it using a car journey: the average speed over the entire trip tells you something different from the speedometer reading at a particular moment. That comparison helped the idea click for him and gave us a starting point for discussing derivatives. The experience captures something I value in teaching: a familiar example can make an abstract concept understandable and give a student the confidence to explore it further.
  • 6) What difficulties or challenges have you faced, or do you still face, in your subject?

One of the most meaningful challenges in tutoring is helping students turn their understanding into consistent performance under exam conditions. I identify whether the obstacle involves subject knowledge, interpreting the question, choosing an approach, or managing time, then target it directly. My approach combines focused instruction with increasingly independent practice and realistic exam questions. I want students to recognize how to approach a problem even when its wording or presentation is unfamiliar, and to make clear, confident decisions under pressure.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion?

Playing soccer is a particular passion of mine. I enjoy its tactical side: reading the situation, anticipating what comes next, and making decisions with limited time. Those skills have useful parallels with test taking. Students need to recognize patterns, choose an efficient approach, manage their time, and recover calmly when a question is difficult. In both soccer and exams, preparation helps make those decisions more deliberate. I enjoy helping students develop that combination of knowledge, strategy, and composure.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof?

I bring STEM expertise supported by a master’s degree in biomedical engineering and over seven years of tutoring experience. My strength is combining that knowledge with clear explanations, careful attention to how each student thinks, and a structured plan for improvement. I connect ideas across subjects and help students develop both their understanding and their problem-solving strategies. Whether we are strengthening foundations or tackling advanced material, I aim to make every lesson purposeful and help students become increasingly capable, confident, and independent.
