About Emma
I have nurtured my passion for mathematics over 11 years, earning a B.Sc in Pure Mathematics and an M.Sc in Applied Mathematics. Throughout my career, I have guided students across age groups and skill levels, from beginners exploring fundamental concepts to advanced learners tackling complex problems and modelling projects. My teaching integrates conceptual understanding with practical applications, fostering both analytical thinking and creativity.
My teaching philosophy centres on clarity, engagement, and student-centred learning. Lessons include visual demonstrations, real-life applications, structured exercises, and problem-solving guidance, all designed to help learners understand deeply, retain knowledge, and develop confidence. I emphasise curiosity, exploration, and independent thinking while providing structured support tailored to each student’s learning style.
Beyond teaching, I remain actively engaged with research, mathematical modelling, and new educational approaches, enriching lessons with contemporary perspectives. Mathematics lessons thrive when learners engage actively with concepts and see their practical relevance. My lessons focus on algebraic manipulation, calculus visualisation, probability, statistics, geometry, and problem-solving strategies. I incorporate interactive exercises, real-life examples, and step-by-step explanations to ensure concepts are understood deeply and retained confidently. Each session emphasises exploration, questioning, and developing analytical thinking, fostering a supportive and motivating environment where students can grow at their own pace.
Lessons are customised to each learner’s level. Beginners concentrate on basic arithmetic, introductory algebra, simple geometry, and foundational problem-solving. Intermediate learners work on multi-step equations, calculus concepts, probability distributions, and analytical thinking exercises. Advanced learners tackle rigorous problem sets, proofs, functional analysis, and real-world modelling.
