About Josean
I've consistently shown that I am great at mathematics throughout my entire academic and professional life. Not only do I hold a Ph.D. in math, but I also know how to communicate math effectively as a professor at SMU and as a tutor. I've also worked in the past for companies like Accenture, Sandia National Laboratories, and NASA where I applied my math knowledge to real-world problems.
As a professor, I have a 95% + retention rate, meaning almost all of my students finish my course and with good grades. The average GPA of my calculus course was 3.3/4 and no failing grades!

I custom fit my lesson plans to the need of the individual student realizing that everyone learns differently. Typically, I like to work out examples of variable difficulty starting with basics to slowly give my students more confidence in their math abilities.
In my lessons, I make sure to remind my students of needed prerequisite knowledge before starting the lesson (typically an hour long), not taking more than 5 minutes. Then, I jump to ask them if they need any clarification on anything and start on the examples. I don't spend too much time on redundant or useless theory and simply show my students how they can practically go about solving the problems. I make sure to stop working examples once I am 30-40 minutes in for an optional Q&A, giving the student the choice to continue working on examples or ask questions from their homework.
As a professor, I am also qualified to do feedback on missed exam questions upon request and make sure they leave knowing not just what they missed, but also new strategies they can use. The fact that I'm also a professor sets me apart from the average tutor, as I can offer the student more insight as to what their professors are looking for and what specifically they can do to improve their grade. In particular, I teach them how to write up proper solutions to problems and emphasizing clarity and thoroughness throughout so they can maximize their scores.
I am available to teach any level of math from 8th grade algebra to more advanced math like real analysis, abstract algebra, or topology.
