About Holly
Hello! My name is Holly and I am currently studying mathematics at the University of Exeter. I've always loved maths and love sharing my passion by helping my students to enjoy it, too!
Aside from maths, I enjoy being outdoors, whether it be skiing down some snowy mountains in the Winter or camping in the wild in Wales in the Summer. If something sounds fun I'll give it a go! It's always interesting to hear of my students' interests and what they like to get up to in their spare time too.
Although I mainly specialise in maths, I can also tutor in English and verbal and non-verbal reasoning. I know that school and exams can be a challenging time with lots going on, so I always try to make my lessons as fun and interactive as possible to take away some of that stress and make learning more fun. I have also tutored with Explore Learning for over two and a half years, where I have worked with a focus on building positive relationships with my students and increasing their confidence.
I am also an experienced tutor in meeting the unique educational needs of children with special requirements, such as autism and dyslexia. With a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of various learning styles, I tailor my teaching approach to accommodate individual strengths and challenges. I am committed to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes growth, confidence, and academic success for every child I work with.

In terms of my lessons, each student learns differently, so my tutoring approach will depend on each individual! Before we start lessons we'll have an opportunity to chat about what you need help with and how you learn best, and this will form the basis for the structure of our meetings. Typically, each lesson will involve some warm-up questions to gauge the student's confidence in the topics that we will be studying, and we'll also set some targets for the rest of the lesson. The majority of our time will be spent going over questions and learning ways to remember useful techniques. I love to make the sessions as interactive as possible, so there will be lots of time to work on the whiteboard!
At the end I will always leave time to encourage the student to think about how the lesson went - did we meet our targets today? Did we master any topics? Is there anything we would like to work on more next time? This creates a great starting point for our next lessons and also enables the student to take control of their own learning. This is a great way to demonstrate progress throughout the lessons, and gives the students a sense of pride in their work.
