About Oscar

I am a maths tutor with 6+ years of experience teaching a range of ages and abilities. This includes one to one, group lessons and significant experience teaching mathematics in both primary and secondary schools. I currently work as a Maths Intervention Specialist in a primary setting.

I have a strong academic background, with a First Class degree, a 9 in GCSE Maths, and an A in AS Maths and Further Maths.

I recently completed a 20 week full time mathematics subject knowledge enhancement course which involved mathematics content and teaching methods from KS3-KS5. I then undertook the first part of a Mathematics PGCE, gaining further understanding of pedagogical theory and practice, as well as secondary classroom experience alongside expert teachers.

About the lesson

I design my lessons to build a deep understanding of mathematical concepts and foster connections. Rathering than memorising isolated facts, I believe it is far more useful (and more interesting and fun!) for students to explore patterns, ask questions and reason. Not only does this embed mathematical understanding, it provides students with essential problem solving skills.

I extensively use visual representations to help make ideas intuitive. I also try to connect mathematics to real life, other subjects and practical scenarios where possible.

Using mastery and repitition methods, I aim to ensure students retain information in the long-term memory.

I am available to teach any age, from primary all the way up to GCSE and A-level.
